King County prosecutors are frequently asked: What kinds of crimes do you charge?

Most crimes in cities are misdemeanors handled by individual city attorney’s offices. That includes the overwhelming majority of shoplifting cases. But more serious cases — including shootings, residential burglaries, and armed assaults — can be referred as felony crimes to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office by police investigators.

If someone armed with a gun or knife makes a threat while shoplifting, that can escalate it to a felony crime, for example.

In October, King County prosecutors charged at least 629 crimes — the most serious in our community. Below are links to daily case lists, followed by the October summary by crime type.
