Charges filed by the KCPAO: Wednesday, Oct. 26

--

The overwhelming majority of criminal cases filed daily by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office don’t receive public attention.

That’s not the fault of the public or news reporters — it’s understandable with the volume of felony cases we file each day.

The KCPAO is sharing the number of adult cases filed each day and additional details about a handful of specific cases to highlight the kinds of cases we handle. Details below are from the public charging documents.

Hate Crime

The defendant is a white male. The victim is a female of Chinese descent. They are strangers to each other. As the victim was walking on the sidewalk with her mother, the defendant walking nearby approached her, without provocation, and began yelling racist statements. His statements included “Get out of my country! Go back to China! F*** China!” The defendant proceeded to punch the victim on the shoulder and on the back, leaving her in pain. The defendant had a pending case out of Seattle Municipal Court for misdemeanor assault. King County prosecutors argued that he should be held in jail on $15,000 bail.

Robbery In The Second Degree (3 counts)

On October 18, 2022, the defendant entered a Seattle Walgreens store carrying a large pipe. The defendant was seen concealing merchandise. A Walgreens employee confronted the defendant who tried to hit her with the pipe. He then reached into his pocket, opened a knife and waived it at the woman before fleeing the store with the stolen merchandise. On October 21, the defendant entered Walgreens, pushed a staff member out of the way, reached behind the counter, and began to rip items from their safety devices. The same Walgreens employee from the October 18 incident confronted the defendant who pulled out a large black object with a light attached and said “I’m going to tase you.” The employee was fearful and did not pursue the defendant. The defendant fled the store with the stolen items. Another Walgreens employee told police that she saw a large kitchen knife in a sheath on the side of the defendant’s body. The woman told police she also saw the defendant with a Taser, which caused her to be afraid for her safety and the safety of the other employee. Approximately 40 minutes later, the defendant traveled to Ross Dress for Less and was seen by Ross loss prevention staff concealing items. The defendant noticed the loss prevention staff following him in the store. In response, the defendant pulled out a large knife and ran toward the front door. The defendant fled the store with the stolen merchandise. At the defendant’s first appearance, King County prosecutors argued that he should be held on $100,000 bail. The judge instead released the defendant on his own personal recognizance.

Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the First Degree

Possession Of Stolen Vehicle

King County Sheriff’s deputies ran the license plates of a Subaru Outback and determined it was stolen out of Seattle. Officers approached and identified the defendant asleep in the driver’s seat. The defendant eventually woke up and was advised of his Miranda rights. Post Miranda, the defendant stated the Subaru Outback was not his and he did not know who the car belonged to. Deputies found a black Glock 42 tucked in his front waist band — a gun he was not allowed to have by court orders. The defendant also had shaved keys on his person. Deputies observed a shaved key in ignition and two pouches containing shaved keys inside the car.

These case summaries, which were posted Nov. 14, 2022, are not expected to be updated. To see additional details in each case, go to the KC-Script Portal.
