Charges filed by the KCPAO: Thursday, Oct. 27

--

The overwhelming majority of criminal cases filed daily by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office don’t receive public attention.

That’s not the fault of the public or news reporters — it’s understandable with the volume of felony cases we file each day.

The KCPAO is sharing the number of adult cases filed each day and additional details about a handful of specific cases to highlight the kinds of cases we handle. Details below are from the public charging documents.

Robbery In The First Degree

Assault In The Second Degree

The facts of this case are alarming. The victim, a 74-year-old man, was walking on the Sammamish River Trail when the defendant emerged from some bushes and began to attack the victim. The victim tried to get away, but he was pursued by the defendant. Witnesses observed the defendant hit the victim, throw him to the ground, bash his head into the ground, and drag him down the trail. When witnesses tried to intervene, the defendant confronted the witnesses before continuing his assault on the victim. When law enforcement arrived, the defendant had the victim — who was not moving and covered in blood — pinned against a fence. The victim was diagnosed with a brain bleed and was admitted to the Evergreen Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for treatment and observation. The defendant was in possession of the victim’s cell phone, wallet, and money clip. It’s obvious — based on this random and brutal attack — that the defendant poses an extreme danger to public. King County prosecutors argued that this defendant should be held on $300,000 bail.

Rape In The Second Degree

The defendant held the victim down and forced sexual intercourse upon her despite her efforts to literally scratch and claw and fight him off. The defendant committed this offense in the presence of his friends who he knew would not step in or come to the aid of the victim. The victim is understandably extremely concerned for her safety and the safety of her family. Part of the reason for the delay in the KCPAO’s ability to file charges was the difficulty the Kirkland detective had in locating the defendant to interview and obtain a DNA sample for comparison with the samples obtained from the sexual assault kit. Defendant had a warrant outstanding in King County District Court for over two years from 2019 through the end of 2021. King County prosecutors argued that the defendant should be held on $100,000 bail.

Failure to Register as a Sex Offender

The defendant raped a woman in California and is required to check in weekly in order to remain in compliance with his court-ordered terms. But the defendant, who transient around King County, had not checked in as required since September 2020. He also has multiple convictions for assault, and a conviction history that includes harassment, theft, DUI, attempted assault and domestic violence.

These case summaries, which were posted Nov. 14, 2022, are not expected to be updated. To see additional details in each case, go to the KC-Script Portal.
