Multiple Felony Charges Filed Against Man for Assaulting a Child, Mother
This afternoon, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed four felony counts against the man accused of taking an 18-month old girl from her mother, throwing the child, and pushing her mother and another woman into Lake Washington.
The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged him with:
- Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree
- Assault in the Second Degree (two counts), and
- Attempted Kidnapping in the Second Degree
The defendant’s arraignment, where a plea is entered, is scheduled for Feb. 3.
Every case that has been referred to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office involving this individual has been charged. The felony cases filed before today’s case led to convictions.
Separate from today’s case, the defendant’s most recent case charged by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office led to a conviction for two counts of assault (20–1–05259–7). In that case, the man randomly attacked a family picnicking at Green Lake Park on August 30, 2020.
Across Washington State, the time someone spends in jail or prison is determined by state lawmakers based on their crime and their previous criminal history, called an “offender score.”
In the 2020 case, the defendant went into sentencing with an offender score of 2, meaning that Washington State lawmakers set the standard range for his assault case at 12–14 months (based on his two previous assault convictions). Again, that is not unique to King County — that’s the sentencing range across Washington State, set by lawmakers. The man served 12 months on the conviction from the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office case and was released from custody Dec. 3, 2021.
