Following Trial, Federal Way Man Sentenced to 37 Years
On September 5, 2023, Giovanni Herrin was sentenced to 37 years (444 months followed by community custody of 36 months). Mr. Herrin’s sentencing follows a July jury conviction of Murder in the First Degree Domestic Violence with a firearm enhancement, and also Escape in the Second Degree.
From the original public charging documents:
“The defendant and the victim had only recently begun dating earlier in the year. After spending the day at the victim’s place of employment, the defendant lured the 17 year old victim into the woods and shot her in the head. The defendant then fled the scene with her car, purse, and cell phone. Soon after shooting the victim, the defendant was seen at an ATM where the victim banked.”
King County Prosecutors originally charged Herrin with Murder in the First Degree in 2018 after he shot and killed his then-girlfriend; prosecutors filed additional charges against Herrin after he subsequently escaped from custody while pending trial.
