December 2024 Firearm Case Report

--

King County Prosecuting Attorney Leesa Manion is sharing monthly reports detailing the cases filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office each month where a firearm was involved; these charges include cases involving firearm violence. In the month of December, we filed 55 cases based on law enforcement referrals in which firearms were involved. Over the past 5 months, King County Prosecutors have filed an average of 63 cases involving a firearm on each month (66 cases in August, 70 cases in September, 67 cases in October, and 60 cases in November).

Details on the charges filed in each of these 55 cases are at the bottom of this report.

Our office seeks to hold the individuals responsible for gun violence accountable; this report is part of our commitment to sharing the results of our prosecutors’ case filings — which stem from police detectives’ investigations — in a consistent and transparent way.

December Report by the Law Enforcement Agency

These filings do not include cases where victims were threatened with what appeared to be — but was ultimately not established to be — firearms (for example robbery or felony harassment where the suspect/defendant/respondent threatened a victim with what the victim believed to be a firearm) and these cases do not include incidences that are still pending investigation. These cases vary in complexity and include cases in which our prosecutors worked closely with detectives during the investigation.

These filings are in addition to the arguments our prosecutors are making in court every day to hold individuals in custody who are using guns to harm members of our community. The firearm charges detailed in this report don’t always get covered in news stories or on social media — only a fraction of the cases we file make the news. However, we plan to share these reports each month to share this information publicly and in an accessible format.

In addition to these reports, the KCPAO compiles quarterly reports on shots fired incidences across King County (which are compiled and analyzed through partnership with local law enforcement) at www.kingcounty.gov/gunviolencedata.
