Charges Involving Shooting of State Trooper
On Friday, a Washington State Patrol trooper was shot several times and was seriously injured. Today, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office rush filed a felony case against the person arrested for the shooting.
The defendant is charged with:
- Assault In The First Degree with a firearm enhancement
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the First Degree
- Theft Of A Firearm
This is a felony case, and felony cases are filed in Superior Court. King County prosecutors asked the Superior Court judge to hold the defendant on $3 million bail. The Superior Court judge approved that bail amount. (In King County, first appearance hearings — even for felony crimes — are routinely handled by District Court, which is separate from Superior Court. Monday’s first appearance hearing was handled by a pro tem District Court judge.)
As of this writing, the defendant remains in the King County Jail.
