Charges in Wallingford Residential Burglary, Assault
On Monday (Feb. 6), the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office rush filed felony charges of Residential Burglary and Assault in the Third Degree against the man arrested in the Wallingford case where homeowners were locked out of their own home.
Form the charging documents:
On February 1, 2023, the defendant approached the victims, a married couple who had just exited their home to examine their property, to sell them a tool. The couple declined and the defendant used this opportunity to run into the victims home and lock them out.
The defendant took the keys sitting next to the front door to keep the couple from entering their home. The defendant was observed laughing at the couple and playing the piano in the home. When officers arrived, the defendant stated he had a gun and then proceeded to grab bolt cutters from inside the home and smash the glass front door. Officers were hit in the eyes and face by the glass shards and sustained minor abrasions.
The defendant then proceeded to throw items from inside the house at officers and continued breaking items inside the house. Eventually, the defendant was detained and arrested.
King County prosecutors argued the defendant should be held on $30,000 bail to ensure community safety. The defendant’s arraignment, where an initial plea is entered, was scheduled for Feb. 16 in the King County Courthouse.
