Charges in Interstate 90 case

--

Today, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office received a case referral for the person arrested in the I-90 incident last weekend. After an independent review of the case, King County prosecutors charged the defendant with five felony crimes:

  • Assault in the Second Degree with a deadly weapon enhancement.
  • Possession of an Explosive Device
  • Possession of an Incendiary Device
  • Attempting to Elude A Pursuing Police Vehicle
  • Possession of Stolen Vehicle

From the public charging documents:

“In this case, the defendant was found inside a car that was later found to be stolen. When police tried to get him to exit the car, the defendant instead drove away and attempted to elude officers. He led officers onto a major thoroughfare, westbound I-90, as he continued to ignore officers’ commands to stop the car. The defendant then dramatically escalated his attempt to elude by abandoning the stolen car on I-90, and running away before turning and threatening officers with an improvised explosive device.”

As of this writing, the defendant remains in jail on $750,000 bail — the amount requested by King County prosecutors and set by the Court after hearing from both sides.

Defendants are innocent until proven guilty in court.
