Charges Filed in Downtown Seattle Shooting
Tuesday afternoon the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed a second-degree murder charge against a man for the Oct. 3 fatal shooting near 3rd and Pike in downtown Seattle. In addition to the murder charge with a firearm enhancement, he also was charged with first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, a felony.
We asked a judge to set bail at $2 million in that case.
The defendant was not located immediately after the Oct. 3 fatal shooting — he was arrested Oct. 16 following a second shooting in Seattle’s Little Saigon neighborhood. In that case, two people were shot including a woman who was visiting from Oregon.
Following the man’s arrest in the Little Saigon shooting, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office asked a judge to hold him on $750,000 bail arguing that he was a danger to the community. The judge set bail at $500,000, and found probable cause for first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office rush filed charges against the suspect in this case and his co-defendant on Oct. 20. (Rush filing a case means to file it within 72 hours so an individual can remain in custody with a judge’s order.)
On those two cases, the defendant is in jail on the $2.5 million total bail amount requested by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. He has remained in jail since our initial bail request at his Oct. 17 first appearance.
