Charges filed by the KCPAO: Wednesday, Sept. 21

The overwhelming majority of criminal cases filed daily by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office don’t receive public attention. That’s not the fault of the public or news reporters — it’s understandable with the volume of felony cases we file each day.

The KCPAO is sharing the number of adult cases filed each day and additional details about a handful of specific cases to highlight the kinds of cases we handle. Details below are from the public charging documents.

Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the Second Degree

On September 17th, 2022, Seattle Police officers were dispatched to an apartment complex after a report of shots being fired. Upon arrival, Officers located approximately 78 fired cartridge casings. A resident of the apartment complex informed officers that it was the defendant who had fired the weapon. Officers searched the defendant’s home, and located a handgun, and several open boxes of ammunition, and a high capacity firearm magazine. The defendant is ineligible to possess a firearm. The KCPAO requested he be held on $50,000 bail.

Attempted Residential Burglary

The defendant was apprehended after trying repeatedly to break into an occupied residence in nighttime hours; one of the victims reported that the light bulb by her front door had been removed and another reported that a number of lights were on in her home as the defendant tried to force his way in, breaking the glass in her door. When he was contacted by law enforcement, the defendant threw down his backpack and ran to hide under a car. When he was dragged out from under the car, he refused to identify himself and said “good luck figuring out what happened.” The defendant’s backpack contained several condoms and bottles of baby oil. King County prosecutors simultaneously charged him with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender under case number 22–1–04544–9. Both were filed by a prosecutor in our High Priority Repeat Offender group .The KCPAO argued that the defendant should be held in jail on $150,000 bail in the attempted residential burglary case. The first appearance judge in the case set bail at $50,000. Because prosecutors did not have the grounds to re-argue bail, we asked that the $50,000 be maintained.

Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the First Degree

On September 16th, 2022, Officers were dispatched to Kittens Adult Cabaret, as witnesses had reported the defendant was threatening to shoot everyone. Officers arrived on scene and located the defendant. During a search, Officers located a loaded 9mm handgun in the defendant’s waistband. The defendant’s conviction history includes felony theft, unlawful possession of a firearm, felony assault, robbery, and taking a motor vehicle without permission. King County prosecutors argued that he should be held in jail on $75,000.
