Charges filed by the KCPAO: Tuesday, Nov. 8

--

The overwhelming majority of criminal cases filed daily by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office don’t receive public attention.

That’s not the fault of the public or news reporters — it’s understandable with the volume of felony cases we file each day.

The KCPAO is sharing the number of adult cases filed each day and additional details about a handful of specific cases to highlight the kinds of cases we handle. Details below are from the public charging documents.

Hate Crime

The victim, who is of Mexican descent, was working at a restaurant when the defendant approached him, shoved him to the ground, called him a “f****** immigrant,” and kicked him while he was on the floor. The defendant was intoxicated, stumbled and fell while leaving. The defendant has pending charges for DUI and Violation of Ignition Interlock in King County District Court (Cause Number 1A0593166). Given the biased nature of this incident, the unprovoked assault of a stranger, and the defendant’s pending criminal charges, King County prosecutors have community safety concerns. The KCPAO asked for a judge to maintain the $5,000 bail amount set by the first appearance judge (King County prosecutors had argued for $10,000 because of the danger to the community).

Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the First Degree

Theft In The First Degree

The defendant is a repeat offender with prior convictions for violent behavior and for unlawfully possessing and using firearms. Prior to this 2022 South Seattle case, the defendant was charged in a felony domestic violence case. In that 2021 incident, the defendant assaulted the victim — his girlfriend with whom he has a child — in front of her mother on a FaceTime call. Her mother saw the defendant strike the victim in the face with a closed fist. She then could see the defendant grab her daughter by her hair and throw her around. The victim’s mother then listened to her daughter scream for approximately 13–14 minutes before the line went dead. A judge in that case set bail at $80,000 (though King County prosecutors argued for $100,000). It was posted by the defendant on a judge’s order that he not commit any new crimes or possess firearms. That order was violated, and this new case was charged in November 2022. With those filing of those new charges, King County prosecutors argued the defendant should be held on $500,000 to protect the community.

Violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act (heroin delivery)

Violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act (cocaine delivery)

On Nov. 3, 2022, the Seattle Police Department conducted a narcotics surveillance operation in the Belltown neighborhood in Seattle, Washington. The defendant was observed by one undercover officer engaging in the sale of narcotics. The defendant was seen reaching into his front jacket pocket, removing a clear, plastic sandwich baggie, and opening it up for the unknown male. The defendant reached into the baggie and placed the substance into the unknown male’s hand. The defendant was observed receiving US currency from the unknown male and walking away. When officers contacted the defendant, he attempted to flee but was apprehended. The defendant was found with 8.6 g of crack cocaine, 7.7g of black tar heroin, and $1,116 in US currency. The substances suspected to be cocaine and heroin were confirmed as such by a field test. The defendant had an active warrant in a felony drug case. King County prosecutors argued for $5,000 bail. The first appearance judge set bail at $3,000.

These case summaries, which were posted Nov. 22, 2022, are not expected to be updated. To see additional details in each case, go to the KC-Script Portal.
