Charges filed by the KCPAO: Tuesday, Nov. 1

The overwhelming majority of criminal cases filed daily by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office don’t receive public attention.

That’s not the fault of the public or news reporters — it’s understandable with the volume of felony cases we file each day.

The KCPAO is sharing the number of adult cases filed each day and additional details about a handful of specific cases to highlight the kinds of cases we handle. Details below are from the public charging documents.

Residential Burglary

Assault In The Fourth Degree

Harassment

The defendant was heard pounding on the front door of the victim’s South Seattle apartment home to return the victim’s child, who had been staying over at a cousin’s home in the same complex. As the victim was making her way to the front door, she saw the defendant force her way into the apartment home by damaging the lock and frame while carrying the victim’s daughter in her hands. The defendant then threw the girl on the apartment floor and began punching the victim multiple times in the face with a closed fist. When officers arrived on the scene, the victim was observed with a cut on her bottom lip and cut on her left knee. Officers observed that lock on the apartment door had been smashed and pieces of the door trim on the floor. The defendant was placed under arrest and transferred to the hospital. Once inside the hospital, the defendant told a Seattle Police officer that she believed the officer had children and knew his information would be public record and she would find out where he lived and get people to “run through” his daughter. The defendant made derogatory statements alluding penises being inside Officer Meyer’s daughter. The officer stated he feared for himself and his child’s safety. The defendant has multiple previous felony and misdemeanor convictions. King County prosecutors argued she should be held on $100,000 bail because of the danger to the community. The first appearance judge set bail at $25,000, and we asked for that amount to be maintained with the filing of charges.

Assault In The Third Degree

The victim and the defendant were residents of a Seattle homeless encampment located on the NE parking lot of NE 45th Street and 15th Avenue NE. Earlier in the day, the defendant was voted out of the encampment. He became aggressive and threatening to residents in the camp. Witnesses stated that the defendant produced a collapsible baton and had walked around the camp threatening residents. In response, the residents set up a make-shift gate, made of plywood, with the victim placing her body against it to keep the defendant from reentering. At this time, the defendant produced the collapsible baton and struck the victim on her forehead. The force of the blow caused the victim to collapse to the ground and go “numb.” The defendant then left the area with his girlfriend. Responding officers recovered the baton and escorted the victim to the hospital. King County prosecutor wanted the defendant held on $150,000 bail because of the danger to the community. The first appearance judge set bail at $75,000.

In this case investiated by Bellevue Police, the defendant used debit and credit cards belonging to the victims to purchase gift cards and merchandise. The defendant’s transactions were caught on surveillance and the defendant admitted post-Miranda to using the credit cards. King County prosecutors argued for $15,000 bail in this case. At the time of filing, the defendant was in custody in Pierce County Jail on $95,000 bail for multiple crimes, including felony offenses in that county.
