Hate Crime

Assault in the Fourth Degree

From the charging documents:

On July 11, 2022, the defendant assaulted two strangers, both without provocation. First, the defendant struck one of the victims in the back of the head yelling “you f****** dumb b****, I hate you! F*** you I hate you!” Then, the defendant turned his attention to target two Asian women, also strangers to him, yelling at them. The defendant caught up to them and punched one of the women in the shoulder. He also made a reference to China. The KCPAO argued that the defendant should be held in jail on $30,000 bail.

Malicious Mischief in the First Degree

From the charging documents:

In the present case, the defendant severely damaged the victim’s vehicle by taking a key to the body of the vehicle, puncturing all tires, breaking the front windshield, and spraying bear mace all over the interior of the vehicle. The defendant’s vehicle was identified by security footage around the area at the time of the damage done to the vehicle, and the victim identified the defendant as the individual damaging the vehicle in security footage. The damage exceeded $8,000. The victim successfully petitioned for a harassment protection order against the defendant.

Robbery in the Second Degree

From the charging documents:

The victim in this case told police the defendant head-butted him and stole his cell phone after he confronted him about hitting his vehicle. The victim told police the defendant also pinned him against a window and punched him. Police and the victim used the Find My iPhone feature to locate that phone and the defendant’s location. The KCPAO argued that the defendant, who has two warrants since 2017, is a danger to the community and should be held in jail on $75,000 bail. The first appearance judge released the defendant on his personal recognizance over prosecutors’ objection.
