Charges filed by the KCPAO: Thursday, Dec. 29

The overwhelming majority of criminal cases filed daily by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office don’t receive public attention.

That’s not the fault of the public or news reporters — it’s understandable with the volume of felony cases we file each day.

The KCPAO is sharing the number of adult cases filed each day and additional details about a handful of specific cases to highlight the kinds of cases we handle. Details of the alleged crimes below are from the public charging documents.

Attempted Commercial Sexual Abuse of a Minor

Communication With a Minor For Immoral Purposes

In this case, the defendant responded to an advertisement for prostitution that was posted by an undercover King County Sherriff’s Office detective. Thew two began to communicate via text and the detective appeared to be communicating as a 15-year-old. The defendant continued to engage in text conversation with an individual whom he believed to be a 15-year-old child and arranged to come to her hotel to engage in a commercial sex act. The defendant was arrested in the parking lot of the hotel with condoms and $100 — the agreed upon amount to complete the transaction. Prosecutors argued that the defendant should be ordered to have no unsupervised contact with minors and that he not use or have access websites or applications that are used for the advertisement or solicitation of prostitution services.

Burglary In The First Degree

In this case from Dec. 27, the defendant rammed a cart into the front window of a Big 5 sporting goods store in West Seattle, breaking the window and making unlawful entry into the store where he proceeded to steal a bat, Airsoft guns, firearm ammunition, and clothes. When Seattle Police responded, the defendant approached the broken window, towards officers, held a bat in one hand while aiming what appeared to be a firearm at officers. This could have resulted in a justified use of force by officers. It was not until officers made entry into Big 5 and examined the rifle up close, that they determined it was an Airsoft gun. It is also extremely concerning that the defendant was clearly interested in the firearm section of the store, as that area was in disarray with several firearms removed from the wall, with stolen ammunition found on the defendant. Given the facts of this case, the defendant poses a danger to the community as he is likely to commit a violent offense if released. King County prosecutors argued that he should be held on $80,000 bail.

Possession of Stolen Vehicle

In this case, a King County Sheriff’s Deputy noticed a Honda Civil in unincorporated Auburn that had been reported stolen. The vehicle fled, but there was later a call that a Honda had crashed at a traffic circle nearby. A deputy was told the driver fled on foot, but that deputy found the defendant running along the road toward a wooded area. As deputies were issuing him commands and prior to handcuffing him, the defendant opened a medical bottle and swallowed numerous blue pills, which is a common tactic used by people to evade being booked into jail, as jails in King County typically require a medical clearance in a hospital if the arrestee had recently consumed narcotics. Deputies confirmed the defendant’s identity and that the Honda was stolen the previous day. The defendant has a conviction history that includes Assault in the Second Degree, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Assault in the Third Degree — Bodily Harm, and multiple convictions from Ohio, including assault and theft. At the time of his arrest, the defendant also had one active warrant from Tacoma Municipal Court. King County prosecutors asked a judge to hold him on $5,000 bail.

These case summaries, which were posted Jan. 2, 2023, are not expected to be updated. To see additional details in each case, go to the KC-Script Portal.
