Charges filed by the KCPAO: Monday, Sept. 12

The overwhelming majority of criminal cases filed daily by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office don’t receive public attention. That’s not the fault of the public or news reporters — it’s understandable with the volume of felony cases we file each day.

The KCPAO is sharing the number of adult cases filed each day and additional details about a handful of specific cases to highlight the kinds of cases we handle. Details below are from the public charging documents.

Robbery in the First Degree

Attempted Rape in the First Degree

In this Seattle case, the defendant committed a sexually violent robbery while on “escape” status from the Department of Corrections. The defendant entered the victim’s business under the guise of delivering a package, placed a knife against the victim’s side, and demanded money from the victim. The defendant told the victim that if she yelled, she was going to “get sliced” and things would “get worse” for her. When the victim told the defendant that she did not have any cash, the defendant attempted to forcibly rape her at knifepoint. Throughout the assault, the defendant pressed the knife into the victim’s clavicle and made threats that he would cut her with the knife. The victim was spared more serious physical assault only because a coworker happened to come to her aid, causing the defendant to flee. King County prosecutors argued for bail to be set at $300,000.

Felony Harassment

Although the defendant does not appear to have any known Washington State criminal history, the facts of this case give King County prosecutors great concern. In this case, the defendant took out two knives and threatened to “put a hole in the stomach” of a nearby store owner simply because he asked him not to not ask for money near the store. This level of escalation for this type of situation shows a level of disregard on the defendant’s part.

Violation of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act (possession with intent — fentanyl)

On September 7th, 2022, Officers observed the defendant making several hand-to-hand narcotics transactions near 3rd Avenue and Pike Street in Seattle. Officers approached the defendant, and noted he had a container with chunks of powdery off-white substance in his hand. Officers suspected this to be fentanyl powder. Officers placed the defendant under arrest, and located 53 blue circular pills marked “M30,” known to Officers to contain fentanyl, 19.2 grams of suspected fentanyl powder, 28 grams of methamphetamine, and .2 grams of heroin. Officers also recovered $85 in various dominations.
