The KCPAO is sharing the number of adult cases filed each day and additional details about a handful of specific cases to highlight the kinds of cases we handle.

Possession of Stolen Vehicle
From the charging documents:
In the present case, the defendant was found asleep in a stolen vehicle that had a heavily damaged ignition. Search incident to arrest, police located a blank key in his pocket. On July 2, the victim reported his car stolen in front of his business in the 2400 block of Westlake Avenue North. Around 9:30 a.m., roughly four hours after the GMC Yukon was reported stolen, police were called about two people scraping a company name plate sticker from a vehicle, which seemed suspicious. The caller at the Fred Meyer called the number on the vehicle, got in touch with the victim, and texted two short videos and a photo. Police located the stolen vehicle at a 7-Eleven parking lot in Ballard and the defendant was in the driver’s seat. The defendant’s criminal history includes convictions for Vehicle Prowl 2 (2014) and Reckless Burning 1 (2014). The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office asked a judge to get bail at $5,000.

Robbery in the Second Degree
From the charging documents:
The defendant followed the victim inside the victim’s South Seattle apartment and physically assaulted the victim, taking his personal belongings from the victim as he was lying on the ground. The victim said the defendant also threatened to shoot up his apartment and shoot his daughter, who was not there at the time but comes to visit. The defendant was not cooperative with police when they were called to the scene. The State is concerned the defendant will continue to commit violent offenses if he is released and therefore the State requests bail be set in the amount of $150,000.

Reckless Burning in the First Degree
From the charging documents and previous case information:
The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has serious community safety concerns if the defendant is released based on her conduct in this case. The fire at this multi-unit Renton apartment building could have been much worse had her neighbors not been alert to the smell of smoke. They were diligent in notifying their neighbors and evacuating the building before the smoke alarms went off. Police said the defendant was not cooperative with police and had a lighter in her hands when arrested. The defendant has an open and pending felony case in King County Superior Court for Attempt to Elude (21–1–01674–3 KNT). In that earlier case, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office asked the first appearance judge to hold her on $5,000, noting the danger from swerving lanes and running a stop sign and nearly hitting an officer, but the defendant was released on her personal recognizance by a pro tem District Court judge. She failed to appear at a pre-trial hearing, a $5,000 warrant was issued, and that warrant was active at the time of the fire. In this new case, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office asked a judge to set bail at $25,000.
