Charges Filed by the KCPAO in July

King County Prosecutors often are asked: What are you doing to prosecute felony crime? In July alone, our office filed 598 charges — or roughly 30 charges each business day. A majority of those charges involved violent crimes, with domestic violence representing the most prolific crime type at 21% of all charges in July (127 of 598). Additionally, every single business day in July our office charged gun crimes and filed charges to hold repeat offenders accountable.

Below are additional key points from our felony filings in July 2022:

• Violent crimes and gun crimes are majority of the charges we file (see below).
• Nearly all of the cases are violent crimes or charged against repeat offenders (Roughly 30 charges filed daily).
• Repeat offenders are charged every day, with each case being reviewed individually.
• Each day, King County Prosecutors charged gun crimes. Those include cases like murder, armed assault, and 40 additional gun-specific charges like unlawful gun possession.
• Next to DV crimes, stolen vehicle and vehicle prowling cases are the most common: 50 were charged in July, mostly stolen vehicle cases.
• Commercial burglaries and drug dealing cases — predominantly fentanyl and meth — are also addressed daily. 56 of those cases were filed in July.
