Charges filed by the KCPAO: Friday, June 24

--

The overwhelming majority of criminal cases filed daily by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office don’t receive public attention. That’s not the fault of the public or news reporters — it’s understandable with the volume of felony cases we file each day.

The KCPAO is sharing the number of adult cases filed each day and additional details about a handful of specific cases to highlight information about the kind of cases we handle.

Possession of Stolen Vehicle

From the charging documents:

On June 21, 2022, law enforcement observed a stolen U-Haul Van on South Jackson Street. They knew this van to be stolen based on a report from June 20, 2022, where the General Manager of a U-Haul called 911 to report the van was stolen from his lot. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the van and contacted the defendant who was driving the vehicle. The vehicle’s ignition was obviously damaged, no keys were found, and the only way to start and stop the engine was by using a screwdriver.

The defendant’s criminal history includes convictions for VUCSA (2011; 2013; 2017), simple Theft (2010), Theft in the Third Degree (2011 x3; 2012; 2013; 2014 x3; 2015). The defendant also has pending cases for Theft in the Third Degree out of Federal Way Municipal Court from 2019 and Driving Under the Influence out of Kent Municipal court from 2022.

Assault in the Third Degree

From the charging documents:

On June 22, 2022, the defendant punched a law enforcement officer in the head twice with a closed fist. The defendant struck the officer in the left cheek and above the right eye. The defendant ran away on foot, but law enforcement officers were able to arrest him. The officer’s left cheek and an area to his right eye became swollen. Both areas were tender to touch. The officer was later examined and treated at UW Medical-Northwest Hospital. The officer also suffered pain to the back of his neck and a headache that lasted until 8:00 PM that night. Almost twenty-four hours after the incident, the officer still suffered a burning sensation to his right eyelid. The State requests the court set bail in this matter in the amount of $5,000, which is the amount the Court set at First Appearance, because of the likelihood that the defendant will commit a violent offense.

Felony Harassment

From the charging documents:

[This case occurred at an Auburn encampment.] The allegations in this case provide the State with substantial concern for the safety of the community and the safety of the victims, provided that the defendant threatened to kill three individuals and clearly intended to carry out such threat by attempting to light them and the surrounding area on fire. In addition, just a month prior to this incident, the defendant was arrested for assault against his own mother and her boyfriend which resulted in charges filed by the State. The defendant is a hazard to the community as a whole, and has been committing criminal offenses, violent in nature, in short proximity of time. In addition to $25,000.00 bail, the State requests that the defendant commit no new law violations, update the court with any address change, maintain contact with counsel, appear for all future court hearings, and have no contact with [the victims].

These case summaries, which were posted July 1, 2022, are not expected to be updated. To see additional details in each case, go to the KC-Script Portal.
