Charges filed by the KCPAO: Friday, July 8
--
The overwhelming majority of criminal cases filed daily by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office don’t receive public attention. That’s not the fault of the public or news reporters — it’s understandable with the volume of felony cases we file each day.
The KCPAO is sharing the number of adult cases filed each day and additional details about a handful of specific cases to highlight the kinds of cases we handle.

Theft in the Second Degree (3 charges)
From the charging documents:
The defendant is observed on video surveillance driving in an Audi registered to him next to vehicles who have had their catalytic converter stolen. Witnesses to the thefts identified the suspect with descriptions matching the defendant, and historical cell phone data obtained through a search warrant places the defendant in close proximity to all three of the thefts at the time the theft occurred. The KCPAO asked a judge to set bail at $25,000. Bail is necessary on this case as the defendant is a prolific catalytic converter theft offender who confessed to routinely stealing catalytic converters to sell on Facebook Marketplace. Further, law enforcement has connected the defendant to other catalytic converter thefts in the area. The State has significant concerns that if the defendant is released he will continue to commit more thefts, as he stated he commits these thefts to support himself. Further, the defendant has a pending bench warrant for $2,600 for failing to appear for court in his pending Criminal Trespass case in Kent Municipal Court (#K00132832 KNP CN).

Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the First Degree
From the charging documents:
The defendant was contacted because he fired multiple shots near Decatur High School in Federal Way. Fortunately, no one was near the school and there were no injuries. The defendant has ignored the order of the court by being in possession of a firearm when he is prohibited from doing so by has prior convictions. He is likely to commit a violent offense in light of his dangerous behavior in this case. The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office asked a judge to set bail at $100,000.

Theft of a Motor Vehicle
From the charging documents:
The defendant took a 2021 Kia Soul from Avis Car Rentals located at 1919 5th Ave in Seattle. An Avis employee was in the process of renting the car to a customer when it was left unattended with the keys inside. The next day, Seattle Police recognized the vehicle as stolen and contacted defendant as the sole occupant. After he was advised of his Miranda rights, defendant admitted to taking the car, that the car was running with the keys inserted, and being in possession of the car when contacted by police. Defendant was also captured on surveillance footage of a nearby Target driving the stolen Soul to the location where he was contacted by police. The defendant’s history includes 31 warrants convictions for crimes including theft, domestic violence, taking a motor vehicle without permission, felony harassment, property destruction — and the defendant has 14 charges pending in Seattle Municipal Court. At his first appearance in this felony case, a District Court judge released the defendant over prosecutors’ objection. With the filing of charges, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office requested that bail be set by a Superior Court judge.

Assault in the Second Degree
From the charging documents:
While the defendant does not have any prior convictions known to the State, the defendant’s conduct in this case was extremely dangerous and brazen. The defendant fired 5–6 shots at a residence, in a busy Auburn residential area. Several neighbors were present and outside and witnessed the event. The defendant admitted he did this in anger. The State believes that the defendant’s conduct in this case demonstrates he is impulsive and dangerous and bail is warranted to ensure the safety of the community. The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office asked a judge to hold him in jail on $75,000 bail.
