Here’s a look at criminal charges filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office over the last 7 months, from August 2022 through February 2023.
These are not all the charges — these are felony cases in Superior Court and the expedited and fugitive cases from District Court. Juvenile cases filings and non-expedited District Court cases are separate from the numbers here.
- In the last 7 months, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed 798 assault charges, including armed assaults. With roughly 20 business days in each month, that’s more than 5 assault charges each day.
- In the last 7 months, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed 512 burglary cases (felonies) including 303 commercial burglaries. That averages at least 3 each day.
- There were 534 stolen vehicle and vehicle prowl charges in the last 7 months filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
- There were 509 theft and attempted theft charges filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in the last 7 months — also averaging at least 3 per day.
- In addition to armed assaults, armed robberies, and murder cases involving guns, there were an additional 325 specific gun-related charges, such as unlawful gun possession filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in the last 7 months.
- 54 murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, and vehicular homicide charges were filed by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
- In the last 7 months (Aug. 2022 — Feb. 2023), King County prosecutors filed 105 fentanyl dealing charges and another 68 meth dealing charges (including Conspiracy to Commit VUCSA charges). Another way to say that is nearly 70% of all drug dealing charges filed by King County prosecutors involve fentanyl or meth (39% and 25.3% respectively, including the Conspiracy to Commit VUCSA charges). Overall in the last 7 months, the KCPAO filed 269 drug dealing charges.
- Domestic violence held the largest share with 1,002 charges filed in the last 7 months — 20.48% of all charges filed in that time period.
