Data Insights: 125 Felony Level Drug Dealing Charges in 2024
Through the end of June, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has filed 125 felony drug dealing cases so far in 2024 . 77.6% of those involved fentanyl and/or methamphetamine. Frequently, (32% of the cases) the drug dealing charges involved more than one kind of drug.
Of the 125 drug dealing cases filed so far this year, 17 of those cases (13.6%) also had a firearms-related charge.
The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will continue to prosecute the people who deal fentanyl and meth and other deadly drugs in our communities.
84 cases (62.4%) occurred outside of Seattle, and another 17 cases were specifically on Third Avenue in Seattle. The 125 overall drug dealing cases filed in the first six months of this year also coincidentally are in a span with 125 working days — meaning King County Prosecutors filed approximately one felony level drug dealing case each working day from January to June 2024.
According to the most recent data from Public Health — Seattle and King County, there have been 669 confirmed drug overdose or alcohol poisoning deaths through August in 2024. Of those, 535 involved opioids, 498 involved fentanyl, and 375 involved meth, according to the Public Health Dashboard. In all 2023, the total numbers were 1,142 deaths involving opioids, 1,088 involving fentanyl and 758 involving meth, according to the dashboard.
